Business in the Toilet

That's right, you read the title of this post correctly. My business is officially on the toilet. Notice what I said there, it's "ON" the toilet, meaning I've decided to get involved in a little project that has me creating art on toilet tanks.

Regular readers of this blog, and there aren't that many of you, may be wondering what the heck I am talking about, so I'm going to give you a little back story to make this totally clear.

One evening I was invited over to a friends house to play a mean game of Texas Hold'em. You know a bunch of guys hanging out drinking and pretending they have some secret playing style that at any one time will clear out the whole table of chips. Well, the only clearing out that night was due to the awful smell coming from my friends restroom. During part of the game I excused myself to use the facilities and was greeted with the worse smell known to man, and I knew whom left odor behind.

Naturally being a creative person, it dawned on me that I ought to carry around a vinyl decal proclaiming ones ruining of the porcelain throne. I simply wanted to “tag” the toilet with “Tony was Here!”. Plain and simple, nothing to outrageous, but simply to the point and very noticeable. Not being equipped to do such a thing that night, I slept on it and came up with another idea the next morning.

Looking around my own home, I can tell you that the toilet is probably the one area of the home that gets the least attention in terms of decoration. I mean we put flowers on top of it, or candles or something of that nature, but rarely do we decorate the tank itself. They are usually white, and mostly porcelain, so putting vinyl on them would be easy and there won't be any residue or damage to the outside if they need to be removed. So I started thinking about all the things that I could put on a toilet tank and how there has to be someone out there that already does this. Naturally I searched all over the internet. Yes, I found people that will cut vinyl, but nobody was selling what I wanted to buy, which was toilet tank humor. So I decided to create it an carry it all myself.

I know that the information I share here is centered around web design and things of that nature, but I thought discussing how I went about building the site would be appropriate here. Starting today, I will document, and share (as best I can visually) the progress I'm making on this project.

My goal for the entire project is a complete website. Nothing more really, I just wanted to get this idea to the web and see if I can sell a few decals. Do I expect to be rich? No. Do I expect that a lot of other people will find the same things funny? No. Do I expect to have a lot of fun and see how well my SEO and development skills get me results without paying for them? Yes, I absolutely expect some results from this.
