I Want to Build Your Website
Follow me here and let me show you what I can do!
It's OK I'm Alive
I've gotten a few emails lately asking if I'm still building websites. They answer to that is a resounding YES. Although I have to tell you, because of this sites I've been a bit busy. It's true, I've actually gotten some really good contacts from this site and I've engages with a number of them.
I know I need to get in the habit of updating this site a lot more, but working with new clients and with emerging technology is extremely exciting to me. Also, it's very nice to have a flood of projects coming in and having the ability to pay all my bills. Actually, it's nice to have enough money in the pipeline to pay two new employees that I hired to help me out. Yup, I hired someone, so that makes me an official company now. How exciting.
I think it's important to note, that I have been changing my tune a little bit. Before I worked exclusively with Django to build all my websites. It wasn't just because I felt more comfortable with that particular technology, it's that I really believe it simplifies my life and produces an outstanding web asset. However, there are those customers that already have a technology chosen and they just want someone to maintain and enhance what they already have. Thus one must be able to adapt to any circumstance.
Recently I accepted a contract to build a site using Drupal. Before I had sworn off Drupal because of the messy code and the fact that it used exclusively PHP. I wanted nothing to do with it. I quickly learned that being a code snob really wasn't the most attractive way to be when it comes to freelancing. In fact embracing change might ultimately be the theme here. What I was able to do was not only create a very dynamic and community based website for the customer, but I expanded my skills and potentially signed up more work, just by allowing myself to step out of my comfort zone.
So if I were you I would take whatever project comes your way and go with it. The worst thing that could happen would be you having to learn a new skill and adding it to your tool chest. Learning isn't that bad and the next time a customer asks if you've heard of a particular technology you can not only answer with yes, but tell them your story of building that site with it.
