Hardware Issues
It never fails. As soon as I need to get to my computer, and I mean, really need to get something done, some part of the hardware fails. I just love those little error messages that you get that talks about some error at some unknown memory address. Yeah, one of those lovely little deals, and I'm starting to get the more and more frequently. This is why everyone always tells you to back your stuff up, and luckily I did just that.
I'm very fortunate that I have all my business files backed up offsite and my Mac is always in good working order. This has saved me on more than one occasion because I can't seem to keep this Windows 7 machine running. Don't get me wrong, when it's working it's a great machine with a great operation system, it's just with all the memory conflicts and whatnot, it gets very frustrating trying to keep this box running.
There does however seems to be a solution to the issue, and that's pulling each and every card I've put into the box out and seeing how that effects the start up of the machine. You'd think by now that windows would have a better way of detecting issues, but I guess I'm living in a dream world.
So it's been wonderful fighting with a computer that just wont give me any love. What makes it even worse is that I have a client meeting the following day and I needed some presentation materials off of that computer to take with me on my laptop. Luckily they aren't hard to recreate, but it's just the fact that I do have to recreate them that irritates me. Oh well, at least I didn't loose everything right?
Sometimes I'm not sure which is worse. Recovering or flat out failure. With a recovery you spend your time just trying to get back what you lost and all the work that go with that process. A complete failure means your starting from scratch, which means everything is new. Although you may not have any of your files, you also aren't bringing with you all the problems that are associated with it. In my case, I'm thinking a complete failure wouldn't have been that bad.
I guess we'll see how this whole thing turns out tomorrow when I get back and attempt to use the machine again. I hope that some magic elves swing by while I'm asleep and take care of all the issues.
