I Want to Build Your Website

Follow me here and let me show you what I can do!

We Are Changing

I don't know if I wanted to call this a change or a maturing. This blog has served me very well over the past few months, but now it's time to change a tad so that we can keep up with the times and the growing need of my readers. With that said, I'm officially able to say that we've grown up in a big way.

As many of you know i started this blog as an experiment really, on how to build, attract, analyze and maintain a website. What I didn't expect, was for people to actually call me and offer me gigs on doing those vary things for them. We'll call them "clients", or "friends" in need of a face lift. Well I'm no surgeon, but I can dissect a website fairly well, and I can tell what's going to work and what isn't.

However, I couldn't do it all alone, so I had to hire someone. Then I quickly figured out that there was really too much work for two people to do, so I hired a third. Yup, that's right. There are now three of us working for "Yet To Be Named Company".

It's funny, I actually thought about calling my company "Yet To Be Named", YTBM, although the BM part totally turned me off. So we are starting to grow, and growing in this economy has got to be a good sign.

Now that we are a we and not just a me, there are other things that are starting to change. Sharing the workload is much nicer, as well as almost instantly expanding the companies skill set. With that expanding skill set means that there also needs to be more projects coming in to keep everyone busy. Before I could take the one or two day project to get a simple website up and out the door. Now we actually have to pass some of the work along to other freelancers.

Which brings me to the whole point of this post. You didn't think I was going to get there did you? Now that we have more mouths to feed we've come up with a solution that will help others in the freelancing industry, especially in the website building side of it. We are going to create two new pieces to this website.

  1. A Job Board: This isn't like your craigslist or authentic jobs, it's more of a listing for specific skills for those companies we work with that have a small job they need accomplished.
  2. A Resource Board: This is mostly a selfish little application that will allow us to gather information on those individuals that have a particular skill set. Often times we get projects that need a particular skill and it's hard to find good candidates. We expect this to help our cause quite a bit and hopefully establish some really good relationships with local resources.

We (I) am still going to blog on a fairly consistent basis, however others will most likely start to contribute as well. I also know that I couldn't have made this leap if it weren't for a few GREAT clients taking a chance on me and allowing me to prove myself to them in order to get this business going. I appreciate all of them and hope for continued success with their organizations, however I'm still very passionate about giving back to the freelancing community.

I will still maintain a freelancing feel to this blog and I hope to provide great content for those freelancers out there that want to someday own their own agency. Owning an agency is still a pretty far off target for me, but we are getting there. Right now I'm fully committed to gaining great clients and doing outstanding work. As always I'll keep you posted on how that's going!
