It's All About the To-Do List

I'm sure you've heard the expression before "So much to do, so little time"? Well this week that is true for me. It already feels like the week is half over and we've only had a one day vacation. The big deal this week is that school starts again, which means the kids go back to school and it's FREEDOM FOR ME. That's right, I get the peace and quite of home again, which means more work is going to get done.

One of the key elements to owning your own business, especially in a tough economy, is that one must be very organized and on top of things. One of the ways I stay organized is through the use of To-Do lists. Yes I know it sounds corny, but I actually still use half a piece of blank paper every day and write down the things I need to.

One of the ways I stay organized is through the use of To-Do lists. Yes I know it sounds corny, but I actually still use half a piece of blank paper every day and write down the things I need to.

Writing things down is like a commitment to yourself that your going to do them and it gives you a visual indicator that things are actually progressing. I for one really like to see things checked off the old list. It gives me a sense of accomplishment right away, and urges me to move on to the next tasks.

I have found that making a To-Do list the day before is far better than trying to sit down in the morning and figuring out what you should be doing. So each night I fill out my list for the next day, adding things that might not have gotten done today. Then I just add to that list as the day goes on. I star the issues that seem to be the most important.

My reason for writing this, isn't so that you get more organized nor is it to showcase my own personal organizational skills. It's to let you know that I'm going to build a To-Do list with Django but give it a slightly different twist. This application is going to be part of a must bigger project, which is that of the news site. As the news site I told you about earlier, gets more finalized, I think it's important to be able to add some sort of notification system, or workflow, that allows others to assign tasks to individuals. Yes it appears as though I'm starting to create a rather involved CMS, but it's what the customer is asking for and with Django just about anything is possible.

So in the next few weeks/months I hope to announce more as the project gets underway.
