Today I find myself working on a new project that is somewhat different that the usual website that I'm asked to build. What I'm working on is a website that is product based, and not so much "news" related. These types of small projects are fun because they take you away from the "normal" development that I do for a "typical" client.

This client also gave me free artistic reign to develop whatever I felt necessary to get the products point of view across. Basically the message to me was:

Make it look good and help us sell a lot of this stuff.

 

 

To me, that was a pretty fair statement. After all, the only way people will know about this product is by going to the website. Currently it's not sold in stores and it's not something a lot of people know a lot about. Another interesting aspect is that there isn't a lot of budget for things outside the website and production of the product. Which makes one of the key requirements challenging.

This client wants video, and that single requirement is one of the reason that I signed on to take the project. Shooting the video will be fun, and implementing it in the website is going to be equally as rewarding. What follows is the requirements that I gathered when meeting with the client:

• Video showing the installation of the product
• Contact page
• Product details page
• Shopping Cart through PayPal (hmm, might have to change their mind about this)
• Future Enhancement: Blog
• Picture Gallery

Pretty simple right? I thought so, so I took the gig and will start on it shortly. The deadline for this is the end of the year. So I'll be able to work on it as time permits while I finish up some other projects. Although this one may be a bit strange, seeing that there is no real need for a CMS behind a fairly simple site. Most of the work for this project is going to be design, and making sure the customer has the ability to find what they are looking for quickly.

This site isn't like those T-Shirt sites that offer you a ton of options. Nope this is geared more for the person who knows exactly what they want, which means I need to do a good job of getting the word out about this product and make sure the search engines can find it.
