Newsroom CMS
As you may recall from a previous post (I'm In The News), I have a client that has asked for a fairly simple CMS to publish their daily news. Currently, they have no CMS and more importantly, they have no archiving and the website is built by hand two times a day. In addition to there not being a CMS, there is also no way to publish the next days edition unless someone is sitting at the controls and does it manually.
In a day and age of many open source CMSs, it baffled my mind to no end why a very large company didn't have a system in place that would provide this functionality. After working with the developers and content editors for a while, it dawned on me why there has never been a good solution. The products on the market today simply aren't customizable enough.
This lead me to create something that the client is absolutely in love with, and I had a great deal of fun creating. Although this isn't as much of a product as it is a service offering, I've created Newsroom CMS. I'm sure your shocked at the cleverness of the name, but regardless it hits on the one point I was trying to make. There is a CMS designed specifically for newsrooms that have to deal with deadlines.
Here are some of the initial features that I wanted the offering to have.
-
Multiple authors can contribute
-
Customizable data fields
-
Ability for comments to be received and the ability to turn them on or off
-
Built in archiving
-
Easy navigation
-
Intuitive user interface
-
WYSIWYG integration
-
RSS Generation
-
Polling (Live Feedback)
-
Clean separation of content from presentation
-
etc...
Well I'm proud to announce that Newsroom CMS not only accomplished all of those, but it even added some features. In addition to the above we have:
-
Image management (ability to auto generate thumbnails and galleries)
-
Breaking News module
-
Customizable User Profiles
-
Multiple Blog and User Management
-
Client Branding
-
Support
Yes, you read that right, we are now offering support the customizations, but we are also offering user training. In the next few days I will post the url for the new offering, which I am very excited about. The feedback we have gotten so far is incredible, and we hope you find the offering something worthwhile.
