PrestaShop Not To Bad
A few days ago I wrote about how a customer of mine was looking for me to implement an Open Source shopping cart for them. In order to do the best job that I could for them, I needed to install the packages on a local server and play with them a little bit. So installed the following and played with them:
- osCommerce
- zen-cart
- OpenCart
- PrestaShop
We already know what I think of OpenCart and Zen-Cart, but this PrestaShop is pretty impressive.
One of the pieces that drove me away from OpenCart, was the fact that there wasn't any good shipping module. This is no different in PrestaShop, but for this implementation, I use flat rate shipping so it's no big deal. Another issue with OpenCart was that I couldn't get Paypal to work really well and Google Checkout wasn't even an option.
PrestaShop is pretty impressive. Not only is the administration interface pretty slick, it's sports a module for Paypal and Google Checkout. Pretty nice feature, because the most important part of any shopping cart is the ability to checkout easily and pay. So with those two features underway, I was already liking the product that much more.
osCommerce is a pretty mature product, and all those features are already there, but the biggest problem that I had with it, is that creating a layout is tough, and very cumbersome. I'm not to into manipulating a bunch of code, and every time I tried to customize it I got lost in all the configurations that it takes. PrestaShop has a theme directory and changing the look and feel is pretty much based on CSS that I do know well.
So I think I'm going to give PrestaShop a chance and see how easy it is to maintain a site and get people to order. Maybe I'll change again at some point, but for right now PrestaShop looks like a good fit for what I'm trying to do.

I agree, PrestaShop is a nice option and with zen-cart and osCommerce coming from the same engine, it's as if they are the same product, just a different name. OpenCart would be a great solution if there were more modules, but the lack of community and updates makes it harder to go with.
Have you checked out CubeCart?
Prestashop is one of the most reliable shopping carts nowadays I would say. It's worth switching to. Now it's simple with cart2cart shopping cart migration service. This guys automate the migration process.
